1940's Kitchen Rennovation

We recently received some project photos we wanted to share of a remodel project we designed back in 2025. The house was built in the 1940s, so it had some quirks, as many older homes do. The client’s goals for this project were to add more storage, open up the kitchen, incorporate a rolling island, and keep the historic feel of the home—all without relocating doors, windows, or plumbing.

Here is the original footprint of the kitchen.

Here is what we proposed.

The changes we made include: removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room, removing the peninsula and continuing the cabinetry on the sink wall all the way to the window, new cabinetry including adding upper cabinets and extending the cabinetry to the doorway on the fridge wall with the addition of tall pantry cabinets, new appliances, and additional lighting.

By removing the wall separating the kitchen and dining room, we were able to open the space up, making it feel less crowded. The addition of tall pantry and wall cabinets helps solve the storage issue. We maintained the character of the home by keeping the gorgeous hardwood flooring and built-in shelving features to the left of the living room and to the right of the fridge.

Thanks to our software, the client was able to see exactly what it would look like and digitally walk through the space, all before the demo even began.

Here's the grand reveal!
